If you’re anything like me, then last night, you’ll have been sitting up with a big glass of wine and watching Rishi Sunak deliver his big budget plans to recover from the huge cost of the pandemic.
And while it seems that it might take us a while to climb out of this hole, there is good news for small businesses.
£520 Million on the table for growth
In order to help stimulate the economy, one of the schemes that the Government is planning to launch is the Help to Grow scheme. This scheme will help some 130,000 companies take their business to the next level.
The programme will help small and medium sized businesses across the UK learn new skills, reach new customers and boost profits.
The scheme will focus on two main areas. Help to Grow: Management and Help to Grow: Digital.
Help to Grow: Digital
Help to Grow Digital will be launching this Autumn. It will give small businesses access to free impartial advice on how technology can boost their performance through the use of online platforms.
Eligible businesses will also be able to get a discount of up to 50% on the costs of approved software – worth up to £5000.
Vouchers will be made available for use on software that helps businesses:
- Build customer relationships and increase sales
- Make the most of selling online
- Manage their accounts and finances digitally.
Who is it for?
All businesses will be able to benefit from free online advice on the platform. The vouchers are expected to be available for the following UK businesses:
- Employ between 5 and 249 employees.
- Registered at Companies House
- Have been trading for more than 12 months
- Are purchasing discounted software for the first time
The full details on the businesses and eligible software for the voucher are to be published this summer! So start gearing up for that!
Help to Grow: Management
Coming in June, small businesses will be able to get access to a 12-week programme that will be delivered by some of the leading business schools across the UK.
The scheme is designed to be manageable alongside full-time work and it will support small business leaders that wish to develop their strategic skills with a focus on financial management, innovation and digital adoption.
30,000 places will be available over a 3-year period and the government is going to be covering 90% of the bill with participants paying just £750 out of their own pockets.
Who is it for?
- UK Businesses from any sector that have been operating for more than 1 year.
- Between 5 to 249 employees.
- Participant should be a decision maker or member of the Senior management team within the business.
- Charities are not eligible.
Want to get ahead of the curve?
With £520 Million up for grabs, businesses are going to be flying out of the door to get in on this scheme. If you don’t want to miss out, there are things that you can do to get the ball rolling before the Help to Grow scheme launches so that you can hit the ground running.
Given that we know the software discount vouchers will be driven towards digital adoption with a focus on building customer relationships, increasing sales, online selling and digital finance management, you may want to start taking a look at your business and seeing what systems you could benefit from.
A good way to do this can be to make use of a business consultant who can help you map out your business and find opportunities for digital adoption by suggesting what software you can use.
Having a clear goal in mind will make it much easier to pull the trigger when these vouchers become available.
Find a development & deployment partner
In order to make the most out of the discount vouchers, I would strongly recommend that you do a bit of homework before-hand and find a partner who can work with you to setup, configure and deploy your software.
There are a lot of great businesses out there (obviously, we’re the best) who can use their experience in the various different digital platforms to help you avoid any headaches and adoption pains that can come from a DIY setup.
