Making sure that you have consistency is important for the development of your brand. In this article, we’re going to look at how you can map a custom domain in Zoho Books to offer your customers a seamless branded experience.

If you’re looking to promote a professional brand, then you’ll know how important it is that your services and software contain your branded elements. In the case of Zoho books, when clients want to visit their portal they have to go to books.zoho.com/portal

And as you can see, this isn’t ideal for several reasons – firstly, the client is going to be interfacing with a 3rd party they’re going to a domain outside your network and it can be confusing for them. Secondly, it lacks the brand consistency which won’t help you develop your brand.

With custom domain mapping you can change the domain that your customers use to access their portals to a more ‘brand friendly’ link”

With custom domain mapping you can change the domain that your customers use to access their portals to a more ‘brand friendly’ link. So rather than books.zoho.com you can point them to books.yourdomain.com instead – which will help you develop your brand identity and give your customers confidence.

  Mapping your Custom Domain

  1. Go to settings > Preferences > Client Portal > Custom Domain
  2. Click ‘Map Custom Domain’ button.
  3. Click OK, Got it button on the description window
  4. Enter the custom domain name (books.yourdomain.com)
  5. Click Next
  6. Get the “CNAME” that’s generated by Zoho Books
  7. Go to your domain name provider’s website and visit the DNS settings/management page.
  8. Create a new CNAME record with the CNAME generated by books and the host name.
  9. Click ‘Submit & Verify’ (Verification can take some time as your provider processes the new CNAME.)

Once the domain is verified, Zoho will start installing an SSL Certificate for your domain. This can take 3-5 days and you’ll get an email when it’s completed.

And that’s it! If you have followed those steps correctly, then you will have the custom domain set up for your Zoho Books client portal!
